Do & Don’t do…

Let us see how to say the don’t do or the do not do statements.
When we want to ask some one not to do something, in English we use the word ‘DON’T’ in the sentences. The same way in Tamil we use a suffix ‘-aadhe in the conversational form. For eg:

1. Paal kudi. (Drink milk.)
Coffee kudikkaadhe. (Don’t drink coffee.)

2. Kaaigal saapidu. (Eat vegetables.)
Junk food saapidaathe. (Don’t eat junk food.)

These verbs when they are used in the don’t statements, they have different combinations with the suffix –aadhe. In Tamil , mostly all the verbs will end with the vowel sounds such as a, e, i, and u.

Verbs ending with ‘a’

will usually have –ra

Example

Vaa (come) Va-ra En kooda va-raadhe

Otu (drive) Ot-a
Podu (drop) Pod-a
Moodu (close) Mood-a

Kudu (give) Kudu-kka Aval book kudu-kkaadhe
Edu (take) Edu-kka
