The words ‘Here’ and ‘There’ are important parts in the verbal form of any language. Let us see how to say these in Tamil.

The Tamil sentence structure must be learned and understood before we go on to the lesson. Keep these things in mind while translating sentences from English.

* Tamil Sentence generally starts with a ‘Subject’ followed by    an ‘object’ and ends with ‘Verb’.

Example – The pen is here

                       Paenaa inga irukku.  Where,

Subject             object               verb

Subject could be a noun, pronoun.

Object could be an adjective, adverbs, etc.,

* The Question words will not come in the beginning of the sentence except when there is no subject in the sentence.

Example – What is your name? – should be translated as

                      Unga paeru enna? and not as

                       Enna unga paeru?

* ‘Irukku’ is a conjugated verb derived from the base verb ‘iru’ which means ‘ to be ‘. The word irukku is used when a place of something is referred. It is also used when there is an adjective in the sentence.

Puththagam enga irukku, sollu/sollunga?

Inga irukkaa?Anga irukkaa?

புத்தகம் எங்க இருக்கு,சொல்லு / சொல்லுங்க?

இங்க இருக்கா? அங்க இருக்கா?

Kids, Look at the things in your room. Say where they are?

Example:

Gadikaaram anga irukku!

கடிகாரம் அங்க இருக்கு!

Conversation between Raju and Rayane

Raju: Rayane, come to my house.

Raju : Rayane, en veettukku vaa.

ராஜு : ரயான், என் வீட்டுக்கு வா.

Rayane : For what?

Rayane: Edhukku?

ரயான் : எதுக்கு?

Raju : Let us play, there.

Raju : Naama anga vilayaadalaam.

ராஜு: நாம அங்க விளையாடலாம்.

Rayane : Okay. Let us go.

Rayane : Seri. Vaa poalaam.

ரயான்: சரி. வா போலாம்.

Raju : This is my room.

Raju : Idhu ennoada arai

ராஜு: இது என்னோட அறை.

Rayane: Room is very clean.

Rayane: Room romba suththamaa irukku.

ரயான்: ரூம் ரொம்ப சுத்தமா இருக்கு.

Raju: Thanks. Can I give you some juice?

Raju: Nandri. Naan unakku konjam juice tharattumaa?

ராஜு: நன்றி. நான் உனக்கு கொஞ்சம் ஜுஸ் தரட்டுமா?

Rayane: No. Just now I had.

Rayane: Illa. Ippoadhaan kudichchaen.

ரயான்: இல்ல. இப்போதான் குடிச்சேன்.

Raju: Okay. Come let us play Tennis.

Raju: Seri. Vaa Tennis Vilayaadalaam.

ராஜு: சரி, வா டென்னிஸ் விளையாடலாம்.
