Tenses in Tamil

Past Tense (இறந்த காலம்)
Teacher came to the class ஆசிரியை வகுப்பரைக்கு வந்தார்
He told a story அவன் ஒரு கதை சொன்னான்
I went to the temple நான் கோயிலுக்கு சென்றேன்
Sita saw a movie சீதா படம் பார்த்தாள்
The children jumped and played குழந்தைகள் குதித்து விளையாடினார்கள்
I saw him yesterday நான் அவனை நேற்று சந்தித்தேன்
Ram wrote a poem ராம் ஒரு கவிதை எழுதினான்
Past Perfect
Sita had finished her lunch when I came நான் வந்த போது சீதா மதியம் உணவு முடித்து விட்டாள்
Till last night I had not seen him நேற்று இரவு வரை அவனை நான் பார்க்கவில்லை
She had already written the poem அவள் ஏற்கனவே கவிதை எழுதிவிட்டாள்
The bus had left before he arrived there அவன் வருமுன் பேருந்து போய்விட்ட்து
We had lived in Mumbai since 1999 நாங்கள் 1999 முதல் மும்பையில் வசித்து வந்தோம்
Ram had gone home before sita சீதா வரும் முன் ராம் வீட்டிற்கு போய்விட்டான்
We had never seen such a movie நாங்கள் இதற்கு முன்பு இப்படி ஒரு படம் பார்த்ததில்லை
Past Imperfect
She was talking in the school அவள் பள்ளிக்கூடத்தில் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தாள்
He was living in Chennai three years ago மூன்று வருடங்களுக்கு முன்பு அவன் சென்னையில் வசித்து கொண்டிருந்தான்
When I came home my mother was sleeping நான் வீட்டுக்கு வரும்போது என் அம்மா தூங்கி கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்
Ram was writing a story in Tamil ராம் தமிழில் கதை எழுதி கொண்டிருந்தான்
It was raining yesterday நேற்று மழை பெய்து கொண்டிருந்தது
I was riding on horse to shop நான் குதிரையில் சவாரி செய்து கடைக்குப் போய் கொண்டிருந்தேன்
At that time, I was residing in chennai அந்த சமையத்தில் நான் சென்னையில் வாழ்ந்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன்
Present Perfect
They have heard a sound அவர்கள் ஒரு சத்தத்தை கேட்டனர்
Sita has made the tea சீதா டீ தயாரித்திருக்கிறாள்
I have finished my work நான் என் வேலையை செய்துவிட்டேன்
Ram has planted a tree ராம் ஒரு மரத்தை நட்டிருக்கிறான்
He has seen me in the beach அவன் என்னை கடற்கரையில் பார்த்துள்ளான்
The play has just started நாடகம் இப்பொழுதுதான் ஆரம்பித்துள்ளது
My father has arrived home எனது அப்பா வீட்டிற்கு வந்து விட்டார்கள்
Past Using Might
Sita might have come சீதா வந்திருக்கலாம்
Baby might have slept குழந்தை உறங்கிருக்கலாம்
He might have heard the sound அவன் சத்ததை கேட்டிருக்கலாம்
They might have laughed அவர்கள் சிரித்திருக்கலாம்
He might have written the poem அவன் கவிதை எழுதிருக்கலாம்
Children might have played குழந்தைகள் விளையாடிருக்கலாம்
They might have paid அவர்கள் செலுத்திருக்கலாம்
Past Conditional
If he had come, I would have come அவன் வந்திருந்தால், நான் வந்திருப்பேன்
If he had told me, I would have danced அவன் சொல்லிருந்தால், நான் ஆடிருப்பேன்
Had you come, children would have played நீ வந்திருந்தால், குழந்தைகள் விளையாடிருப்பார்கள்
Had you asked, she would have slept நீ கேட்டிருந்தால், அவள் உறங்கிருப்பாள்
Had you told, we would not have come நீ சொல்லிருந்தால், வந்திருக்கமாட்டோம்
Had you invited, we would have come நீ அழைத்திருந்தால், வந்திருப்போம்
